Reflection into the New Year
Just a quick reflection on some of the things that I've learned from 2024 and taking into 2025.
It’s been a minute. I can’t lie. I didn't think I would post anytime soon, but here I am. I know a few who have read these posts are going to be excited about this one. Thank you for always being so engaged. It’s lovely to see people who have watched me grow and supported me in this little project I like to do. So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. People were asking me when I was going to post next. So here you go. I hope you all enjoy it!
What a year 2024 has been. It feels like it went by much faster than I would’ve thought. There were a lot of highs, and there were some lows. But all in all, it was a great year that taught me a lot about myself and the habits I need to instill in myself to succeed this coming year. Coming into 2025, I want to reach many goals and accomplishments for myself, and I know I can achieve more than ever. However, before getting this year started, I wanted to take a moment to share three things that I learned this past year that I’m taking into 2025 to make it a successful one.
The importance of discipline
One of the most important things I learned in 2024 was the value of discipline. I often found myself unmotivated throughout the year and did not want to strive to reach my full potential. Frequently, I chose to take the easy way out and not apply myself in a way where my folks would be proud. But coming into this new year, I have learned to embrace challenges and show myself the value of doing hard things. I’ve been fortunate enough to know that a life that is worth living should not be easy because if it was, then everyone would do it. But they don’t. Those same people fall into a trap where they waste their potential by not doing the initially “hard stuff.” Right now, I’m reading “The Road Less Traveled” by Scott Peck, and one of the things Peck talks about is the idea of Delaying Gratification. The idea is that people enjoy doing things that feel good to them now and delay what they should be doing, expecting them to go away. However, as Peck mentions in another part of the book, problems never disappear. So instead of doing the things that feel good now, do the things that are much harder to do first and enjoy yourself later. Delaying Gratification can be a much more productive and beneficial way to live your life. I’ve been trying to implement this idea in my everyday life. And I’ve already seen how much more productive and less lazy I’ve been because of it. As a wise man once said, “When it’s time to work, work; when it’s time to play, you play.” I love you, Dad.
Patience is a virtue.
Everyone has heard the phrase, “Patience is a virtue.” Now, what does this phrase indeed mean? It means that patience or the ability to wait is morally good. So why would patience be a good thing to have? It’s because not everything you want or expect will happen immediately. Understanding that certain things take time to happen prepares you for unrealistic expectations and unexpected disappointment. Many times throughout the last year, I wanted different things to happen in my life and change, and I found myself too impatient to wait for them. Because of this inability to wait, I made irrational decisions that would never have happened if I had been more patient. I know that it’s hard to wait for things. We all want them to happen right away. However, the most remarkable achievements and goals that you want to reach always take time to manifest. So the next time you want something to happen, remember that good things come to those who wait.
Consistency is Key
I’ve mentioned something about consistency before, but the only way to get the results and desires you want is by constantly doing what you’re supposed to be doing daily. If there is not that level of consistency, then there will never be the success that you want. This past year, I struggled to do the things I needed to do consistently, and because of that, I didn't get the desired results. But now, going into this new year, I understand the value of consistency because that is the only way the success that I want will come. Trust me, if you continually keep working and do it daily, the people you compete against will never catch up. Never forget that.
3 Key Takeaways
Discipline is essential to getting the things that you want to accomplish
Not everything that you expect to happen will happen right away. Understanding that and being patient with that will allow you to not have unnecessary expectations hurt
And none of this can even start if It’s not done consistently
Again, I can’t thank you enough for taking the time to listen to the words I have to write. Whether you enjoy it or not, I will always keep doing it. What a fantastic way to connect with people and share my thoughts on things I’ve gone through. Once again, I can’t thank you enough for your support. Have a blessed day.
